Bantham Beach

Bantham is a huge sandy beach with fabulous views over to Burgh Island and Bigbury on Sea and a shortish walk along the coastal path to Thurlestone. Bantham is also south Devon's premier watersports beach where you can surf, SUP and kite surf as well as go fishing, wind surf and kayak.

This is one of the only beaches on the south coast of Devon with a backdrop of sand dunes and it gives the place an away from it all feel. Even though, just a hop over the dunes, you have the village complete with a nice pub, The Sloop, and a village shop. But the best place to fill up is undoubtedly the Gastrobus. Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and salads are on offer and they make a mean cup of coffee. In the summer months watch out for their sister vans selling pizzas, ice creams and even cocktails.

Work up an appetite exploring the estuary mouth behind the dunes and walk along the banks of the Avon - pic below. It's beautiful. For the adventurous try the paddle down to the river mouth from Aveton Gifford.
